ADX & DFM portfolios
Track ADX and DFM portfolios with clearer context
A portfolio is more than its current value. This page explains what portfolio tracking means for UAE investors on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange and the Dubai Financial Market — and how FalconSight turns your recorded holdings into context you can read.
Basics
What is portfolio tracking?
Portfolio tracking is keeping an organized record of what you own and what has happened to it: the holdings, the buys and sells behind them, the dividends they paid, and what it all adds up to at current prices. For ADX and DFM investors — often holding stocks on both exchanges, sometimes across more than one account — a tracker replaces scattered broker screens and spreadsheets with one coherent picture of the portfolio.
Beyond the total
Market value alone doesn't tell you much
A single number — what the portfolio is worth today — answers almost none of the questions that matter for understanding it. Worth compared to what you put in? Driven by which holdings? How much of it came as dividend cash rather than price movement? How concentrated is it in one company or sector? Those answers live in the structure behind the total: cost basis, per-position gains and losses, income, and allocation. Tracking is what keeps that structure visible.
The terms
The vocabulary of a portfolio
Holdings
The stocks you currently own — each one a position in your portfolio.
Quantity
How many shares of a holding you own, the net result of the buys and sells you have recorded.
Average cost
What you paid per share on average across your buys, including fees. It is the baseline your gains and losses are measured against.
Market value
What a position is worth at current prices — quantity times the latest price.
Unrealized gain/loss
The difference between a position's market value and its cost. It moves with the market and stays on paper until you sell.
Realized sales
Gains or losses that became final when you sold — the arithmetic of sale proceeds against the average cost of the shares sold.
Dividends
Cash paid to you while you hold — income that sits alongside price performance, on its own calendar.
How ADX and DFM dividends workAllocation
How your portfolio is spread — across holdings, sectors, and the two exchanges. A descriptive view of where your money sits.
FalconSight computes average cost on a weighted-average basis, with fees included in cost basis — so the gains and losses you see are measured against what you actually paid.
Descriptive, not directive
Positions and exposure — without advice
Seeing a portfolio's structure — which positions carry the most weight, how it splits across sectors, how much sits on each exchange — is simply information about your own money. It helps you notice things: that one holding has grown to half the portfolio, or that most of the value sits in a single sector. What to make of those observations, and whether to act on them, is entirely your decision. A tracker's job ends at making the picture accurate and easy to read.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is a portfolio tracker?
A portfolio tracker is a tool that keeps a record of what you own — your holdings, the transactions behind them, and what they are worth now — and turns that record into context: cost versus value, gains and losses, income, and allocation. It describes your portfolio; it does not decide anything for you.
Why track ADX and DFM holdings in one place?
UAE investors often hold stocks on both the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) and the Dubai Financial Market (DFM), sometimes through more than one account. Tracking them together shows the whole picture — total value, overall gains and losses, dividend income, and how the portfolio is spread across companies and sectors — instead of fragments per broker screen.
What is the difference between cost, value, and gain/loss?
Cost is what you paid for a position, including fees. Value is what the position is worth at current prices. The difference between them is your unrealized gain or loss — it changes with the market and only becomes realized when you sell. They are three related but different numbers, and reading them together is what makes a portfolio understandable.
Should dividends be tracked separately from price performance?
They are worth seeing side by side, because they are different things: price performance is the change in what your holdings are worth, while dividends are cash paid to you along the way. A portfolio can earn meaningful dividend income in a flat year, or rise in price while paying nothing. Tracking both gives a fuller picture than price alone.
Can FalconSight track multiple UAE portfolios?
Yes. You can keep several portfolios — for example one per account or strategy — each with its own holdings, transactions, performance figures, and dividend context, and see per-portfolio summaries side by side.
Is FalconSight giving investment advice?
No. FalconSight is a tracking and organization tool. It does not provide investment advice, does not make buy, sell, or hold recommendations, and does not promise any performance. Everything it shows is descriptive context about the portfolio you recorded — the decisions stay yours.
